You are more than welcome to come see us on Friday, October 14, 9:30 to 10:30 at Forum Dialog, in Hall 5.

During the hour, we will report new ideas developed at the last May’s ICYB conference in Moscow, and give a preview to next year’s ICYB conference which is to be held in Vienna. After the presentations you are invited to have drinks and a snack with us.

Speakers include Antti Pyykkönen (President) from Finland, Anna Kristkeitz (Vice President) from Germany, Maria Parikou (Past President) from Greece and Karl Pus (Past President of IBF) from Austria.

53rd ICYB in Belgium

Innovate or die: a programmatic topic for this year´s ICYB, which took place from June 14-16 in Belgium. Challenges and chances of digitization were the main focus of the diverse program. Not only bits und bytes lead to the booktrade´s future, but also fascinating concepts like Dwarsligger. 34 booksellers from 11 countries developped very practical approaches for their bookstores in three different workshops. The most convincing were: „Book Galaxy – The Story Store“, „The Virtual Bookstore“ and „Time Machine“. These three extraordinary results very also presented at the first ever EBF/IBF/ICYB dinner in Brussels. The IBF/EBF conference was held June 17-18 in Brussels.

Booksellers International Book of the Year (BIBY): Since 1997 the BIBY is chosen at ICYB every year. Each participant presented their favourite title during the bookdating sessions. 2011 is going to be held in Russia for the first time ever. In May 2011 the Russian BA and Moscow House of Books will invite to the 54th ICYB.

ICYB 2010 in Ghent to start on Sunday

The organizers of this year’s ICYB will be welcoming 34 young booksellers from 11 countries on Sunday June 13. The catching title Innovate. Or die promises an interesting program: For the first time ICYB will last «only» three days from June 13^th until 16^th 2010. To keep the special ICYB spirit, vivid brainstorming sessions and workshops will still be the heart of the conference. A professional coach and his team will guide the young booksellers through the three days packed with knowledge, exchange and inspirations. Two days of the program will be held in the beautiful city of Ghent, on the third day we will «move» to the European Capital of Brussels to visit some extraordinary bookshop and retailing concepts.

The end of the conference will be the first-ever joint event for ICYB and IBF members: IBF invites all participants to their welcoming dinner. We will have the chance to give an ICYB inside view to the IBF members by presenting results of our brainstorming sessions as well as BIBY 2010. The new ICYB lottery offers the chance to win an ebook-reader (iriver Story) to all applicants who fill in a questionnaire and make a picture of themselves in their bookshop in advance.
